I have just found four beefburgers from Marks and Spencers which were bought for a barbecue last July.We did not use them so I froze them. They are still in their packet - will it be ok to defrost them and cook them now ?

i wouldnt take the risk, the time that you have had them is way over the usual timescale of 6months, its up to you, maybe i am wrong, but thats what i heard, good eating!

Yes ..I think you sre probably right.Better safe than sorry !
I think they will be fine - I have just bought frozen burgers with a sell by date for 2008

The worst thing that will happen is that they have become dry - thaw them out and have a look.
I would use them, but give them to rufty-tufty people not preggers women or little children i.e. try them out on the men-folk (or me!) ;-)

Good idea !!!
If they were raw burgers frozen, the worst that will happen is that they may be a bit tough.
Just pretend you are at McDonalds!
Otherwise they will be perfectly fine.

Thank you all for your helpful tips - probably give them to the neighbours !!!
They will be fine from a health point of view, bugs do not grow in the freezer. Food safety is a matter of commonsense. I have eaten runner beans from the freezer which were 5 years old.
They'll be fine health-wise although the flavour may have deteriorated a bit. Don't worry!
They'll be perfectly OK.

We chuck out millions of pounds worth of food in the UK annually thanks to the growing population of over zealous food precautionists. Our grandparents would be horrified.
This idea that food goes `off` in the freezer is so obviously a complete load of nonsense that I`m surprised that it crops up so often. If the food was contaminated before going in, then it would be unsafe after days let alone months. There is no reason at all why it should be a health risk after a few years, BUT quite likely, the older it is, the more tastless it will be and consequently may be a bit of a disappointment if entertaing.

Having just got a new freezer myself (this time an upright) and having to transfer the contents the the old freezer in the shed, I found a few things from around the last century but they`ve been eaten.
