I have a beautiful crab apple tree in my garden - type John Downie - it bears so much fruit, but what can i do with the ripe apples ? Are they edible to eat off the tree? It seems a shame to waste them., but ive no idea what to do with them. I have seen my dog eat the fallen ones off the ground and he is still alive to tell the tale LOL!

They are edible but far too sour for most people's tastes - better made into jelly or even wine. Some varieties would be OK for cider but for success that requires a cider apple variety - don't know if yours is or not.

Dogs will eat anything. That's what they are for.
