Is it your first time in New York? I went for the first time last year with a friend and there was so much to see we ended up eating out in whatever location we happened to be in, even though we did have big plans of going back to the hotel, getting changed and finding a nice restaurant! (Not that the ones we ate in weren't nice!) Though on 46th Street (by 8th Avenue) is restaurant row - you'll find somewhere to eat there!

Try the Union Square Cafe - had a fantastic meal there and an excellent wine list. Might have to book - here's the link , but if it doesn't work just go through Google:

There is a big one in Grand Central Station. I think it is called the Oyster bar. Is mainly a fish resturant. The food was wonderful, service great and resonably priced. Also seemed very popular with the locals. One part of the restuarnt is a sushi bar which would be good if there are a few of you going.

Agree with Birt about the Oyster Bar, it was superb. I stayed at the Waldorf and ate in one of the restuarants there a couple of times, cannot remember the name of the restuarant but sure it had something to do with a bull!! Best Caesar salad and fillet steak I have ever had.

Try the Bryant Park Grill off 42nd and 6th or the Frances Tavern (highly recomended - you may want to book - www.frauncestavern.com) on the corner of Pearl and Pine (near Wall St)- both of which are fantastic. There is also a very good restaurant in the Mandarin Oriental hotel.
Just make sure you avoid The Tavern on the Green in Central Park - it's an overpriced cramped tourist trap with barely average food. Have a great time! |
