I've been given a Cookworks breadmaker, but unfortunately there are no instructions. Can anyone help - either by posting a recipe to get me going, or by sending me some instructions off-board? Many thanks!!

Hi Limeycat

Here's my tried and trusted recipe for an easy white loaf. Unfortunately I don't know whether your machine recommends putting in the dry ingredients first (in the order I've listed below) or the other way around .

Remove the baking pan from the inside of the machine - you might have to lift the handles and turn the pan slightly. Make sure the pan is clean and dry and that the paddle is fitted onto the spindle in the baking pan.

Add these ingredients in this order:-

1.5 tsp yeast (the easy bake variety - it will say ok for breadmakers on the packet)

500 g strong white flour (do not use ordinary flour, you need the strong or extra strong for bread)

1 tsp sugar (granulated is ok)

1.5 tsp salt (ordinary table salt is ok)

2 tbsp olive oil (vegetable oil is ok)

320 ml warm water

Place the pan back into the machine - once again you might have to twist it slightly to get it to fit. Lower the handles of the pan and close the lid.

Turn the machine on at the mains and start it up - the setting you want is something like Large White Standard Loaf - should be about 4 hours from start to finish.

The machine will beep when it has made the loaf. Turn it off and, with oven gloves on, lift the lid and remove your loaf. Turn the pan upside down over a heat resistant surface (say a wooden chopping board) and shake it slightly - the loaf should slide out. Allow the bread to cool before cutting a slice (resist, resist, resist !!).

To clean the pan, don't immerse in water, just half fill it with hot soapy water, leaving the paddle in to soak for a few minutes if it doesn't immediately come out. Gently wipe the inside of the pan, rinse out with clean water and allow to drain. Put it away when it is totally dry.
Use Chillispices recipe but you'll need to put the liquids and the salt in first, then flour and any other ingredients you want to add, then put your sugar in one corner and the yeast in the other.
I have one of those breadmakers and they're very straight forward. I'll see if i can find a link to the instruction booklet, mine's long gone!
