Without knowing the exact abv of both fosters and guinness. I would suggest that because of the brewing process you would be affected differently, much in the same way as you are should you drink whisky instead of vodka etc which are both normally about 40%

Guiness is no stronger than Fosters (both 4.0% give or take), but like rd says, the different brewing process might effect you differently.

So it's a maybe.

I'd say yes, but it's the other way round for me. I can drink pint after pint of guiness, and I'll get drunk, but slowly. If I drink lager, I notice it is quicker to affect me.

I think it may be something to do with the gas. I find lager gassier, and I believe - though I don't know for sure - the gassier alcohol is, the quicker the intoxication. For instance, I can also drink straight Southern Comfort, and knock them back quite easily, but if I have them with lemonade, I notice it more.
