Village shop had the fantastic sausages in again so it was sausage, chips and beans tonight.
I've only ever liked Heinz or Branston beans. After reviews Dave decided to give the Lidl beans a try.
To my surprise they were excellent.

Have you ever been nicely surprised by a food or drink....or not nicely surprised?

And what landed on your table tonight?

Lidl’s chocolate. Far superior to most other similar products.
We use Lidls a lot.

Tonight we are about to have a very traditional British meat and veg dinner. Pork chops, mash, carrots, brocolli and peas with Mr T delicious gravy to which he always adds mushrooms. So no surprises. What would I do without this man?
True Rocky. They have won a lot of awards.
Denny bangers with mashed spud gravy and veg
Denny sausage are cheap compared to some but are so nice
A New Zealand Pinot Gris from Aldi for shitepence, lovely.

Lidl have just introduced a similar one that's dangerously close to £7 but I'm expecting a postal order.
I'm fussy about my baked beans. Like you, I prefer Heinz. I might have to give Lidl a try. Never been in there.
We had Tesco finest Cumberland sausages, mash & peas, gravy. Very nice.

Both Lidl and Aldi do some great chocolate.....and wines too.

Save some for tomorrow, Helen to nibble at cold?

Give them a try, Patsy. I don't think Heinz beans are as tasty as they once were though.
I think it's because years ago, We tasted cheaper beans and they were awful. I expect a lot have improved over the years. Will try said beans sometime and let you know :-)
How odd, I wrote a long answer about scallops about 15 minutes ago and it's not here!! Oh well, I was not nicely surprised by scallops!
I like a lot of Aldi's items, fruit juices, jams, cold meats and their Norpak butter. Regarding beans, I prefer the Branston ones.
Meal tonight - Macaroni cheese with crispy bacon bits thrown in.
I think scallops are love or hate. There's a fine art to cooking them so they aren't raw/bordering on slimey...or tough and boot-like.
Aldi oven chips, most oven chips turn out to be a bit rubbish, but these are well worth a try. Pre cooked 3 times in beef dripping. A little more expensive than all the other ones, but very good, they only come in smaller bags. Price around £1.50 / £1.80.
Nope my sausage has to be hot! Cold sausage is an abomination on the tongue!
The best scallops I've ever had were caught and then cooked on the boat out at sea in Seaton. That was years ago and I've never forgotten.
Cumberland sausages don't do so well up here, a bit like Hitlerschnitzel not working in London.

I like scallops with black pudding. Aldi's chips and most of their cereals and jams are delicious.

Thanks for your answers. x

Oh and I'm really surprised at that, Douglas. ;-)
I do like a bit of square sausage - not seen any down here though.
