Is anyone having a go at going meat and dairy free just for January? If so, how is it going?

Also, would anyone try this if it was available in the UK?

Seven, you seem to be suggesting there, that veganism is ok.... as long as there aren't too many?
Yes, we have bred them.and know i have asked this previously...but is it better to have a shorter life, or none?
man may eventually kill all the so called protected species, it just seems the way its going. We can breed them in captivity, then let them out maybe - but where there are poor people, who poach for a living and idiots who buy rhino horn for their medicines, animals will die.
"Why is killing 10 million beetles more moral than killing a cow? "

Who deliberately kills "10 million beetles" ? (certainly no practicing vegan)

Meat eaters DELIBERATELY eat KILLED cow.

You seem hung up on some kind of 'morals' comparison/competition.
people kills millions of creatures without realising it, ants and other creatures under foot, that can't be helped.
I'm not, seven... it seems to be a vegan thing... to try to compare morals.
//Meat eaters DELIBERATELY eat KILLED cow.//

no they don't, people don't eat cows except perhaps unwittingly in meat pies....

definition of Cow "a fully grown female animal of a domesticated breed of ox, kept to produce milk or beef."

Are those meat pies alive OR dead ?

Just to clarify, my post was wasn't meant as a 'ramming down throat' or moralistic intent, one. It was just to gage if anyone was trying it out.

Thank you for your views. One of the reasons I tried to follow a meat and dairy free diet is that I've often expressed my thoughts (at work) about the treatment of animals bred for food such as halal and kosher, only to then be told that as I eat meat, I have no right to take the moral high ground.

I did start off as a strict vegan in April 2018 till around April/May last year but I have slipped back into occasionally eating dairy products.
Yours wasn't, tiggs x but also, don't be pressured by people pretending they are on higher ground x

I won't let anyone do that, Pixie :o) x
I agree with pixie. I've never sensed any 'preaching' from you. I think we all need to do what we think is best for ourselves. Threads like this are always enlightening.

Just imagine the time and patience it must take to train a dog in the science of meat making.

not all vegans are vegans because they don't want to eat animals and animal produce from a moralistic viewpoint.
Also, I don't get APC's post:
//Meat eaters DELIBERATELY eat KILLED cow.//

no they don't, people don't eat cows except perhaps unwittingly in meat pies....

definition of Cow "a fully grown female animal of a domesticated breed of ox, kept to produce milk or beef."

people DO eat cows don't they?
No bednobs people rarely eat 'cow' just like they rarely eat 'mutton'. Also chickens don't lay eggs -hens lay eggs. Just a bug bear of mine I'm afraid. Cattle bred for beef are usually termed a 'Beast' or a Beef Stirk or Beef Heifer. If you ask a farmer is he has any cows he will show you his breeding herd, not those Beef animals being finished for slaughter.
but in your own description you say a cow is "kept to produce milk or beef"
I’m afraid meateaters often have confused and confusing reasons for their diets, bednobs.

If they’d only say “I eat animals because (a) I like the taste and (b) I think they’re inferior to humans, so why not eat them?” at least it would be honest.

I'm not really making judgements on either side just pointing out it's not always moral reasons that make people vegans
Bedknobs // but in your own description you say a cow is "kept to produce milk or beef"//

a Cow produces beef by giving birth to a beef animal. If its a dairy cow they often cross them with beef breed so they can use the calves for beef , if its a beef breed cow they will leave the calf on the cow for 6 -9 months then take it off to grow it on, either on grass or grain, then slaughter around 24 months old. when the beef cow can no longer produce a calf it will go for slaughter , usually for meat pies or animal feed.
