Thinly sliced spuds, grated cheese and chopped onion.

Placed in layers in casserole dish, bit of salt and pepper. One pint of water with three oxo cubes.

Bit of brown sauce after 2 hours or so in oven.

I also made yesterday stewed apples and blackberries. I still have about 6lbs of blackberries left.

My mum used to make this but with a tin of corned beef sliced up in it, and a couple of carrots. Most of our family hated it but I loved it, brings back memories.
A northern dish We often partake in Sparklykid :0)

Cheap and cheerful.
I'd skip the oxo cubes and sauce and use milk instead of water. Would that still be pan haggerty?
Sounds lovely.
I think you could make this a regular feature on AB.

Where's the cheerful in that monstrosity?
Tilly potato and onion gratin, I love it :) I add garlic to mine.

Did use milk one, found oxo tastier.
So do I, Chelle.
I find Oxo way too salty. I used to do one that layered potato, thinly sliced onion and streaky bacon...plus cream. It was good :)
Ooh I might just go make one with bacon now :)
Reminds me of my old Catherine Cookson books, she often mentioned this dish in them.
