I am pretty hopeless in the kitchen but have just made my first Christmas pudding mix to find that I dont have a pan big enough to boil it! It will however fit in my electric steamer, any problems doing this? how long should I cook it for and on what sort of setting? high, low, med? Never used the steamer before so its a real voyage of discovery. Just dont want to risk it unless its definitely going to work but cant be bothered to drive into town to buy a huge pan. Help pls!!

Can it be microwaved? (Sorry that's cheating!).

Do not even think of microwaving your pudding.That is only suitable for a short burst to reheat.I picked up this way of cooking puddings after years of steaming in a saucepan and it is much easier.

Set the pudding or puddings filled and sealed with greaseproof paper and foil in the usual way in a deep meat roasting tin half full of boiling water,cover the whole tin over with foil sealing the edges tightly and oven steam for 4 hours at 160C/140C fan oven or gas 3..Top up occasionally with boiling water if necessary.

yes your electric steamer will work. Do it for the same length of time you would in a big pan, but dont forget to keep the water topped up
I was only joking patsy! I wouldn't really cook a christmas pudding in a microwave, as I know it's only for reheating precooked ones! I'm sure dicky knows it was only meant as tongue in cheek! :o}
Smudge I really did know that you were joking but if Dicky 113 really is hopeless in the kitchen who knows what might have happened!!!!!.Headlines on tonights news House destroyed by explosion wherever Dicky lives . Just joking. I hope!!!

Oh no, that did cross my mind after I'd posted patsy, especailly after dicky giving me a star for the suggestion! If we hear sirens later, you can blame me, LOL!
