How do I cook a pie without the pastry at the base becoming soggy?

The best way is to cook the base first. Put the pastry base into the dish, fork it a number of times (and professionals then scatter dried peas in base) bake at a high temp for about 20 mins and allow to cool. You can then add your filling and the lid! Hope this helps
Being a lazy cook I finished with the beans years ago and just prick the base with a fork. If you want a totally foolproof method brush beaten egg over the base before cooking - no more soggy bottoms!!
