Pineapples

I suppose it depends upon your definition of 'fruit'. According to at least one dictionary definition, for something to be a 'fruit' it has to contain the seeds of the plant and also has to be edible. By this definition, edible nuts must be considered to be 'fruit'. In which case, peanuts (otherwise known as ground nuts) must count as fruits which are formed below ground.

I wonder if truffles could be included in that.

PS...pineapples grow above ground

Surely by definition, the fruit is the bit that contains the seeds, and therefore relies on the wind or other creatures to spread the seeds around? If the seed was buried underground, it would not be able to spread far and wide... I may be totally wrong....??!!
I thought that truffles were a fungus, (or maybe a loverly choccy thing!)
chizzy was right. i have pineapple trees in my secret underground lair.
