Dinner Party! Help.

I'm holding a dinner party a week on Saturday for 8 people a mixture of business associates and freinds. I need an idea for a simple 3 course menu that shows I've made an effort but isn't too complicated to make. There are no vegaterians which makes it a little easier. I'm no Jamie Oliver but I can cook. I've never held a dinner party and have no idea on the menu. Can anybody point me in the right direction?? Many thanks.

Delia's stuffed red peppers are a fantastic starter!

You could then do something like a Coq au Vin or braised lamb shanks with nice fresh veg. Prepared in advance and just left to slowly cook in the oven so you got time for your guests.

Back to Delia - and her chocolate truffle torte for pud (can be made night before).

I'd do something like that - would go down a treat I think. Good luck.

ps/ can I come???? he he

Thanks JulieEve, think I'll have my hands full with 8 people LOL

Eight people is quite a lot for your first dinner party, so make it less stressful for yourself by having a starter and dessert which doesn't need any cooking while your guests are there.

Starters: Italian mixed salamis & crudities ?

Main Meal: Chile con Carne or a casserole or some kind

Dessert: A precooked fruit crumble you can reheat while you're eating your main meal, a fruit fool or sherry trifle or perhaps a nice selection of cheese, celery and fresh fruit.

Have a good evening !

how about excellent smoked salmon with a glass of dry white wine or champers if you are rich,

Super quality pasta with a simple sauce, or cottage pie made with the best ingredients with a glass of warming red,

then the cheese, celery and fruit

coffee with liqueurs and wonderful chocolates

bit expensive but easy peasy and will let you have fun too

If you want to keep it really simple but still with a bit of preparation, take a look at this:
