A bit unfriendly of her.
Well, it is her cake.
Maybe she'll enjoy it with family and not have wanted to eat cake at work
Hi Ric.......hand her a knife saying you forgot to give it with the cake so she can cut it at break time......x
The words "cake" and "share" should not appear in the same sentence. to see them together just breaks my heart.
I thought that as soon as the word 'cake' was mentioned Boo would put in an appearance.
lol, that predictable huh Jack?
Thinking about what happened, I think you should have gathered other colleagues together, put few candles on the cake and bring it into her - candles lighting and say, I know it's early but we're off tomorrow and didn't want to pass your day, take a few pics/selfies and the like so she could show that to her family and out of work friends. Just handing her a cake in a box or wrapping she was bound to pack it away, has she a car? it's easy take home if she had a car but trying to cart a cake about on public transport, Bicycle or walking it be better eat it at work
Or......tell her you can't quite remember at what time the exploding candle inside is due to go off....;-)

She lives on her own and has no family or friends that will be sharing it with her (she has a cat)!
Thing is - I got lemon drizzle as I have given up chocolate for lent - serves me right
Isn't it usual for the birthday girl (person) to make or buy a cake to share with colleagues?
Oh Ric.ror that awful, buy another one and don't offer her any, she's mean and no, it not usual for the person celebrating to provide the cake, it's usually a surprise, maybe she has no social skills
Where I work it's the person whose birthday it is that brings in the cakes not the other way round. Lesson learnt ric-ror!
Oh I never seen that before, I never had to buy my own cake, or seen anyone else buy their own birthday cake - it's very Mr. Bean "Look at me, it's my birthday" I suppose things are different in other areas
Well that's what we do in the West Country ducksie and if we're going to be away on our birthday we bring them in either before or after. I suppose it's one way of ensuring everyone knows it's our birthday! I really didn't realise it wasn't a general tradition.
No, straydog, I'm amused and bemused that this happens, I think she's very mean. We (the Royal we) don't announce our birthdays or advertise them, loved ones remember them and surprise us with gifts - a surprise if we get gifts ;) I know social media changes all that now depending on how you set it but no, I'd never bring a cake to work or anywhere, it's like begging (just my opinion as I never heard of this before)
Where I used to work we would take cake in for our birthdays....mind you we would use any excuse to take cake in. Nobody expected anything in return except to see the cake vanish and to be wished a happy birthday.
If she has no family or friends she won't be used to sharing and this cake might be the only present she will get.
Wherever I worked, Ducksie....we brought the cakes in on our birthday.....(mine's 29th May).....it wasn't to announce, advertise or beg...I'd never do that..... it's just the way it always was....
I enjoyed making lots of fun cakes to bring in for my birthday..... on the 29th May.......
Well.....29th May was always half term so I brought them in before or after the 29th May....... ;-)....x
I live in the West Country, and no one in my work (West Country natives all) have ever brought their own cakes in.
Ric....maybe she'll bring a cake in for you all on Monday...;-)
