Funerals

Just after hearing the death of another old neighbour which I will be attending making this

my 45th funeral from I was 10 until now.

Is that a lot???

More than me...but I didn't start going to them until I was about 19

I can't answer your question , I haven't kept a count though.

LOL at Mamy - just did a count there now - got news last week from Australian friend - her nephew 33 years old dropped dead in Ozzie. She rang me to tell me there was a church service for him the following Monday - but I just said to myself I didn't know the lad therefore I err didn't go.

Funerals happen all the time especially when we get older. Never bothered to count but I doubt if I'll attend any more. Dont like them. I am not going to mine!! :-)

I suppose it depends on how big a family you have and how far-flung and long-lived they are.

I am getting pretty tired of them so I am just going to my own and only nearest and dearest - deffo no more outsiders.

I've always taken the view that you shouldn't have to go to a funeral unless you want to.
It doesn't mean that you respect the person any less or miss them any less if you don't go.
Funerals can be so upsetting and bring back so many unhappy memories.

Australian friend is from a family of 14 - and a very true saying her hubby said - Multiple Births then you have to have multiple deaths.

Mind you - I have been pulled a cuppla times for NOT attending certain funerals. That quite annoyed me.

Was at a funeral today ,a great wee man a pleasure to know .Funerals can make us think and just be glad of the wonderful genuine good people we are blessed in knowing .

The older we are the more friends and family we loose..just think ourselves lucky were still here.

I agree tho, enough is enough. I have made my wishes known that there will only be me and a couple of hefty blokes at mine..to wheel me in the front door and out the back of the Crem. I don't want flowers either...why would I, I won't be able to see them, so a total waste of money.

The family have instructions to take themselves off for a good meal together a few glasses of whatever they fancy and laugh about the good times.

I have one friend of over 60 years who is in her middle 80s she seems to have a funeral a week to attend. Most people she hardly knows but reckons its to support the family....why? I suspect its for the wake..as that usually her topic of conversation after.
