Remember even
I think they are now called 'The Homeless'.
Yep. We had David the tramp that actually appeared on Songs of Praise!! Not appeared as such...just filmed. The authorities used to bring him in and cut his hair and de-lice him.

Also the Indian tramp. She used to walk round with a shopping trolley collecting other peoples rubbish from bins.

And then the infamous 50p Lil. Apparently she'd have sex with anyone for 50p or a Mars Bar :-)
Tilly....completely different.
I remember when they were called "Gentlemen of the road".and they had their own code signs which they would mark on the wall of a property to indicate whether it was worth while asking the owner for assistance.
How so, Ummmm?
I assume TWR is thinking back to the a time before the housing crisis.
When I was little I read a book about a jolly tramp. I knew straight away what I wanted to be when I grew up. (i'm getting there)

Gentlemen of the road. We had a very well spoken individual who wrote poetry. He was a very well known character for years. A nice chap, with his history a mystery.
Thanks for the link Danny, I get what you mean now.
Ah, wandering vagabonds? Yes, I remember them.
