I think some of the best meals are the most simple ones that can be cooked in one pot, on the hob or in the oven.
An added advantage is less to go wrong and a lot less pots and pans to wash up!
One of my fav's is probably 'Shepherds Pie' including peas, sweet corn and carrots. Whats yours ?,
Thats what I do Chipper, I don't use spaghetti but I use pasta normally Fusilli Tricolore, and par boil it for about 8 mins and the remaining 4 mins are done in the pan with the bolognase. Dave.
I make Shepherds Pie often, but I can't do it with only one pot. One for the mince and stock, wine, marmite etc., one for the potatoes and one to put it in to brown under the grill. How do you do it?
Wiki tells me...Stovies is a Scottish dish based on potatoes. Recipes and ingredients vary widely, but the dish always contains potatoes with, variously, onions, carrots, other vegetables, roast beef, corned beef, minced beef or other meat.
I agree about the spag bol, Tilly but I think I'll pass on the coffee.
I recall someone saying that they add the spaghetti to the bolognese, instead of cooking it separetely.
The coffee in the spag Bol comes from a Sainsbury's ad. There is no way I'd do that to my food. It's a marketing ploy to get us to buy things we wouldn't normally buy. I hate Sainsbury's anyway.
Shepherds pie and spag bol are not one pot wonder -they need two pans. I've just bought a new slow cooker and the 'pot' bit is non stick metal which means you can brown your meat and veg on the stove and just place the insert in the slow cooker bit with the liquid. One of my favs is :
coat in flour then brown skinless chicken thighs in butter. add onions carrots celery mushrooms fresh chopped sage salt and pepper and a cup of fresh chicken stock. Cook in slow cooker on low for 5 hours 15 mins before serving add half a cup of creme fraiche or soured cream and fresh chopped parsley. Serve in bowls with crusty bread.

I didn't specify if the meals are cooked from scratch or bought as a prepaired meal from a shop.
A shop bought shepherds pie, tuna pasta bake or fish pie, heated in the oven is still cooking, isn't it ?
