Many years I go I went to Dromoland Castle I think in Limerick - we were given battered scampi and I never ever tasted anything like them in my life.

They must have been hand-reared etc as one of the waiters dropped one on the floor and went back into kitchen and carried that "one" on a plate to my friend.

Can you get any nice battered scampi anywhere - I love them.

thanks everybody for your lovely answers - guess the only thing I can do is go back to Dromoland Castle Limerick. LOL

Jedward - I was only kidding
Trying to compare a corner shop chippy to Dromoland Castle, is just plain daft. They are two very different offerings and it is highly unlikely you will get a similar meal, in taste, atmosphere or presentation. To try and recapture what you had on that day is just going to feed your disappointment.

only kiddng about Drumoland Castle too Eccles - haven't been on holiday since 2008
Eh? Now I'm properly confused! So you haven't been there but you've had battered scampi from there.........how does that work????

Presumably went to the Castle 2008 or before and is joking about going back.
Question Author
haven't been to Drumo since 2008.

mama mia - you got it right. your such a clever girl
If you do go for the shop bought frozen ones just make certain the oven is VERY hot 230-240 deg. Fast hot cooking is essential.

am laughing here - 29 posts over a bit of scampi.

oh 31 now. LOL -
I think Mamya is better versed in reading between the lines than I am.

You are chasing rainbows though if you think you will get a similar offering from a local chippy though.
What is so funny? You asked a question and people are trying to help, why is that amusing?
Got more responses than almost the same question in 2009 in related posts.

That you are!
JJ, if you are still interested then a friend on the inside has suggested the following places for you to try:-

Tedfords, Michael Deanes or the Mourne Seafood Bar.
Dromoland Castle....verrrrry nice. Had lunch there on an Irish trip a long time ago, staying more in select Relais et Silence houses - the honeymoon!
