Channel hopping (as you do ) last week came across Food Something or other, from America and they were showing a restaurant/café somewhere in Miami. And there the presenter was eating what he said were sprouts. They looked to be black or very dark red and, he was eating them like chocolates, whilst muttering about the spices etc.. But I couldn't make out what he was saying. Anyone any ideas please?
I suspect a high percentage of 'sprouts' eaten here in the U.S. are sprouted beans. Lentils, alfalfa and other sources make up the balance.
That's not to say that what you saw being eaten was a local, i.e. Cubano dish. Sprouts, generally are not eaten stand-alone but rather as part of a bigger dish...
I forget the name of the movie, but a bunch of high-ranking US officers, who had just arrived in England during WW ll, were sitting around a dining-table and one said "The first damn thing we do when we get settled in over here is bomb all the G-damn sprout fields!"
