Of not being of Scottish descent, and knowing nothing of Scottish Bagpipes could someone please tell me what key bagpipes are in, and if they can play SHARPS (#) & Flats (b).

The Great Highland Bagpipe .... The key is close to B-flat major; however, Bagpipe music is written in the key of D major,
Did you know that they are not really musical instruments but weapons of mass destruction. I think that the noise that they make is suppose to turn your brain to mush.
It's those fixed reeds, which often are in discord with the note being played on the chanter.

So, not being musical, can Bagpipes play notes in FLATS (b) and SHARPS (#).
The key on the chanter is fixed, rather like a recorder is fixed.

Thanks emeritus, I didn't think they had flats or sharps, so am I right in assuming that bagpipes play there parts in concert key. I told you I have no musical knowledge at all.
