Can anyone recommend a good toaster?

I've had a succession of cheap, supermarket own brand toasters which cremate bread with alarming ease.

I'd be willing to pay a decent amount of money if I could find one that just toasts my bread evenly and consistantly!

Any suggestions?

I have one that takes a fortnight to toast bread, by which time it just crumbles to ashes.....I'll go and check what make it is. Please don't get one of those.

A bad toastee always blames their toaster!
mattk, "toastee" is a passive noun therefore are you saying that 2sp wants a toaster big enough to sit in???
I hope that you're ready for more like this, 2sp_!
We have a Bosch, works for us

Not too sure how it's my fault! ;-)

It has a 1 - 9 toast setting. It's set at 1 and still burns the toast. Why on earth would I want to set it to 9?
I have a Dualit one, love it and had no problems.
Have a Breville one with kettle to match. No problems with either and both quite old now.

Russell Hobbs. Think it's called the Colours range - mine's a metallic red (as is my kettle, pots, pans bread bin, etc.). Only does small slices, but turn it around and do the other end and it's as good as I've ever found. A bit slow on reg. 5, but doesn't dry the toast too much so it's not brittle. Anybody know a toaster that does a large slice in one go I'd be pleased to hear.

lol @ mazie!

I'll check out Bosch, Dualit and Breville.

You would think a society that can put man in space could also build a decent toaster.
Well, I've never had one 2sp..... :o(
We have a four-slice Delonghi - does bagels and bread from frozen too (and does the whole slice in one go).
I have 2 toasters. One does 4 slices at a time, the other takes Rolls, Bagels or really thick bread. Does that make me posh? lol. I think not.
Results can depend on the kind of bread and its thickness. Some of this highly processed bread has so little actual flour in it that it burns if you look at it.
The Barstards haven't even put a name on it, so I can't even warn you off it ! Anyway it's chrome and takes four slices and you my as well put your bread on the sunbed

Ahhh, the toaster with no name... I think I have encountered similar models.
Since you're due for a heat wave, mazie, that may well work.
I Don't use it sp. The old man does, he insists it's OK...He's Scottish and doesn't want to spend money on a decent toaster
In reality you can't beat toast done on an open fire. Sadly we don't have one.
Could do Psybbo but I'm off to Scotland on Sunday..So no more toast for a week or so :o)
