Six hours ago I took a chicken breast from the freezer to defrost. It is still rock hard and I am flippin' starving.

At this rate I will be having tandoori chicken, saag aloo and cachumber for dinner tomorrow and tonight I'll have a sarnie.

I'm bloomin' starving as I've not had a proper meal since Friday lunchtime and I was really looking forward to my dinner tonight.

Please send your leftover Sunday lunch/dinner in this direction.......

I'm a bit buggered with that Eccles. I've just put 3 chicken breasts in to defrost to make Claridges Chicken pie a la Gordon. You would of course be welcome..........
Can you not defrost it in the microwave?
stick it in the microwave for a few minutes - not too long mind and it should soften up ready to cook
Is that all you have in the house, one chicken breast?

I haven't got a microwave, so I'd probably just think about having something else....
defrost in the microwave, defo.....
Microwaves are handy. I've cooked all my veg for dinner (not the roasties, they have to fresh) and will nuke in the microwave when we're ready.
"microwaves are handy"

Yeah, I'm beginning to realise that :)

Warmed up a Chinese last night, in the wok, and it burnt.

I don't have a microwave.

I've bunged it in the oven on the defrost setting to hurry things along.....

My fridge is full of salad and not much else, I want a hot, protein rich, filling meal and I was looking forward to my dinner tonight.... :-(
You can deforst thin meat under warm water safely as long as it takes less than about 10 minutes to thaw all the way through and as long as you cook it immediately. You cant thaw big things though.
I defrost things quickly by putting in a ziplock bag and put in cold water - you can cook your chicken breast as soon as its defrosted enough to cut into pieces.
I've got one of those metal slab things that defrost, I wouldn't be without it, defrosts a solid chicken fillet in 30-45 mins.
^what's one of those rocky?
If you'd put it in a bowl of water this morning,it would be fine by now. I don't like defrosting raw meat in the micro-it never seems right-texture or taste-wise.Even on defrost it seems to cook....;-(

Chicken finally defrosted in the oven and now cooked and eaten!!!

I'm not a fan of defrosting in the microwave and do, if I've been forgetful, put my pots of chilli/curry/etc in cold water to defrost.

I just underestimated how cold it is today and how long it would take the chicken breast to defrost.

Anyway all sorted I'm fed and feeling warm and considerably less crabby than earlier :-)
Sorry Eccles.

Sloopy, I answered on the other thread :)

What ever are you apologising for Rocky???

I'm feeling pleasantly sated now and am looking forward to an evening of wine, TV and sofa :-)

Just open a tin/jar of curry/sweet and sour/BBQ sauce, then microwave it for 12 minutes . Then add rice or noodles
Have it tomorrow and send out for take-away tonight!
I made a chicken and ham pie this morning - with mushrooms, in a creamy bechemel sauce, and puff pastry. New potatoes and peas. Strawberry cheesecake for pud
