I made a Tarte au Citron today for the first time ever. I had some lemons I wanted to use up. I found a recipe online and here is a copied and pasted list of ingredients for the filling:
5 unwaxed lemons
275g caster sugar
4 eggs, beaten
300g unsalted butter

Please tell me that the 300g of butter was a mistake! That's more than a whole packet of butter. It must be wrong, surely!

Look at bbc food site there is a Mary Berry recipe.
Mary Berry doesn't use any butter in the filling, she uses cream

I looked at the Mary berry one but I didn't have any cream. The one I used was a Guardian recipe.

I left the butter out!
Recipe looks fine to me.

Cream is more commonly used but perhaps you should ask yourself what butter is made from!

er......................milk. It just seems like an awful lot of butter.

P.S. It was lovely and I didn't use the butter!
As long as you enjoyed it that is what matters.

BTW, butter is made from cream.
