Just Asking For Opinions!!

I've been invited to two weddings at the end of May (not the same day!).

One couple are meat eaters who have provided the option of asking for a vegetarian meal if required. The other couple are vegetarians who insist that all guests eat vegetarian.

I won't say what my opinion is (although you've probably guessed), but I'm getting stick from my wife for stating my thoughts.

What do you think?

Well it is their day, but you don't have to go.
Personally I hate crusaders who try and inflict there opinions on others
For the sake of one day I would go with the flow.
its only one meal, I dont see the big deal. its not like you have to become a vegetarian.
Take a piece of ham with you!
Lol. As above, it's only one day. I'm sure you'll cope!
I'd go with the flow as it's their day... and get a kebab on the way home.

Actually, I quite like veggie food so it's no great shakes really.
Same as Shoota. It's their day, and eating veggie for one day isn't a problem. I can see a problem for Veggies if they weren't given a choice, because meat eating often goes against their beliefs. However, most veggies I know would just eat the veg and leave the meat.

In other words just accept that you have been invited and be pleased. Guests shouldn't have opinions on weddings anyway. It's what the bride and groom want that counts.
Have a fry up before you go.
It might be due to cost. Some venues allow for a certain number of different dishes from the usual meat one. If the hotel is making the same meal for everyone it will be cheaper.
Their wedding their choice, if you don't like it don't go.
When you go to a wedding you don`t have much choice on what to eat anyway. I suppose it is a bit of a cheek to not offer an option of meat/veg but I wouldn`t be too bothered. If the food`s boring, I`d just ask for more champagne to make up for it.
i think you are more than welcome to state your thoughts, however, i can't really see what the problem is - the vast majority of food you eat is probably vegetarian (potatoes, salad, veg, cheese, porridge, weetabix, bread, eggs and so on and so on) When you go to most weddings, unless you are paying for it yourself, you only get a choice out of 2 or 3 things anyway - what would you do if you didn't like the "meat" choices? You wouldn't moan about it, you'd push it round your plate for a bit and eat the bits you did like
I'd view it as an opportunity to try a meal I've never tried before, for free!
Surely you can go one day without meat? Whats the big deal? My daughter had a buffet for her wedding and the vegetarian stuff went down quicker than the stuff with meat in -and only two of the guests were actually vegetarians! You don't have to grow a beard and wear Jesus sandals you know ;-)

Fair enough - thanks for the quick responses. There was never a possibility that I wouldn't go. (You all sound like my wife!!)

I just think that I should have the choice!! When this couple come to my house I provide a vegetarian option for them ( and anyone else so inclined ).

You can't beat a chicken leg at the buffet table!!

Don't take this too seriously - I can see I'm a beaten man!!
lol just promise yourself a meaty snack afterwards, as for consideration, maybe they are just being thrifty, if it was just you and your wife going they could probably cough up for a piece of meat, however a lot of wedding guests makes it more expensive.
swinman, take a doggy bag along with you but with the chicken leg already inside it. Or why not take a few and make some more people happy!!!! Just joking....
Well the first couple are accepting that vegetarians have their principles and offering to cater for them by offering a non-meat meal. Presumably, you think that's OK.

So why would you expect the second couple to go against their principles and buy loads of meat to feed their guests?

Incidentally, most vegetarian food I've eaten has been brilliant. Especially the Asian varieties. You might well imagine that they'll push the boat out for a wedding and that it'll be something really special.

Just go and enjoy it.
go with the flow, one day isn't going to hurt, besides many vegetarian dishes i have tried were very nice.
You're a guest. Be polite and eat what you're given.
