waxy means those which hold their form when boiled rather than disintegrating into mash

I'm in the south and although I wouldn't say it is an everyday phrase it is used quite widely.

Thanks eccles. I use it when writing a letter to thank someone on accasions but not in every day talk. I dont say it over the phone.
