Boiling gammon.

I have a 1kg piece of unsmoked gammon to cook for tonight. Usually, I boil it first to get the salt out and then roast it.

Is this the best thing to do to get a lovely succulent piece of meat?

In the past I have simmered it for a couple of hours but it seems to come out dry and tasteless.

What would you do with this piece of meat

always stick it in the halogen oven, all meat done in that tastes better and more sucullent than the convetional oven.
I have just done a piece in my slow cooker . I do most of my meat in that .
I bung mine in the slow cooker overnight. It always turns out Moist (I love that word)
Roast it with a coating of honey.

I don't have a halogen oven and it's too late for the slow cooker.
I never boil gammon/ham. I wrap it in foil and place it in the oven in a roasting tray with boiling water in (if its ham, I put a mixture of brown sugar and cinnamon on the top when it's cooked and brown it under the grill).

If you have different settings on slow cooker put it on high for a couple of hours then reduce. I put mine in yesterday at 1 30pm and was cooked by 5 pm.
Just roast it

Possibly bring to the boil in water first - but not simmering for hours, a couple of minutes at most.

I have just cooked a piece for tonight. I always use my pressure cooker - 25 minutes, High pressure for 800g.

You are boiling it too long.
in pan of water bring to boil remove from water brush with honey and a bit of garlic then roast its only a small piece so about 60 mins will be enough
With pease pudding, carrots and white cabbage - scrummy.
Soak it overnight, cover in honey put in a roaster or Pyrex with some water, cover and oven cook on very olow for a few hours. Mmmmmm!
Boil it for 20/30 mins. Leave to cool...slice. Make a mixture of honey, chilli, vinegar. Put the slices in....fry :-)
Gammon is not salted like it used to be.
