Google chocolate orange porter...can't recall the brewer ,
there are a lot of continental beers with fruit Get a copy of the good beer guide invaluable reference book... Some of the Salopian beers are worth a shot... Lemon Dream is absolutely beautiful a lovely Summer beer with a light citrussy tang... very easy drinking but it is quite strong If you are a real bear nut I recommend Birmingham City Centre especially the Wellington At any one time they have 250 csks in the cellar waiting to come on and they have 16 pumps plus a few good regulars like Maisels wheat beer The Post Office Vaults have 8 pumps but a range of about 150 different bottled beers and about 10 ciders. The Shakespeare has 6 pumps and regularly get Thornbridge beers in... Jaipur is a stunner Then there is the Trocadero (5 pumps) the briar rose (5) I think and a few others Then there is the Harborne Mile including 12 pumps in the White horse plus another 7 cask marque pubs in close proximity.... |

If you have a Morrison's near they are doing any 4, 500ml bottles of real ale for £6 and they have a wide selection to choose from, you will be spoilt for choice. They also have Marstons Pedigree at 8 x500ml for £8.

I'm sure there are a few examples around but maybe worth trying to source some unhopped beers.
McEwans Exhibition Ale is a beer that springs to mind that is heavy on the malt and light on the bitterness. But then again alot of (trad.) Scottish ales are more sweet than bitter. Historically this is because hops had to be imported from England and were expensive so used sparingly. Also the cold weather usually stopped the yeast before full fermentation happended, leaving a malty, sweet taste. |
