The first thing I thought I'd try is a couple of lamb shanks, with rosie & garly & veg.

I know there are loads of recipes on internet, but does anyone have any tried & tested homemade ones?

anything you'd do in a casserole does better in a sloow cooker.... and rice pudding is to die for

If you have a branch of The Works cheapo bookshops handy, they do a very good range of 99p recipe books- including one for slow-cookers. 230 pages of smashing recipes and lots of hints and tips.
We always do a brisket of beer in slow-cooker (seal the meat, couple of softened onions - a stock cube, a couple of garlic cloves, maybe some red-wine) then serve it up with roast potatos, yorkshire pudding and veggies, using the gravy. It is as good a a sirloin joint for about 1/4 the price.
even better with brisket of beef ;o)
"brisket of beer" sounds good to me though :)

Slow cookers are great... they make the cheap cuts of meat into a great meal and it's so simple, throw the meat in, a few veg and herbs and a splash of cheap wine (or cider vinegar, or stock) and away you go.
Yep, cheaper cuts of meat not usually cheaper because they are worse, they are cheaper because people dont know how to cook them .. or they take a long time.
We also gammon joints - when ready, take it out and the fat pulls away, leaving tender meat.
I used to do a ham joint in honey and mustard in ours (the only thing I ever cooked in it) - but we never had it as a meal, just ate it hot in door step thick fresh bread.
I love my slow cooker. Tough meat comes out tender. I am always amazed.

Good for curries, if you're not averse to using pastes such as Patak's.
Lightly oil cooker, chop onion and chuck it in, mash a tin of tomatoes, strain (keeping the juice) and chuck them in, chuck paste in, brown diced meat, strain and chuck it in, add a little of the tomato juice...stir and switch on 'Low' for about three hours. Tasty!
The meat-browning above is, of course, done in a separate pan!
