At the moment I have three - a large classy looking one which I bought from Kleenezee and which will not open anything. I know you can return them, but I have already done this and this is the replacement which is just as bad. Then I have a small cheapy one from IKEA which is equally as useless and an extremely old-fashioned one which You first of all make a hole with the pointed end and then lever all the way round until the tin is opened (very dangerous to the hands). None of them work very well. Has anyone got an electric one, if so what are they like. I am desperate.

Whoever would have thought my desire for a new tin opener would engender such a lot of answers. Very interesting!! Shows we cannot do without one. I thought I would get at the most a couple of answers. Now I am spoiled for choice.
Boo have you tried the site "Anything Left Handed"? Very good value equipment.
I just buy the basis tin opener cheapest from Argos - maybe Argos own make - does me for about 3 years - what do you want for a £5. I did buy Kenwood and had to bring it back to Currys 3 times - go for basic.
I have the chunky Brabantia one like Rowanwitch describes - it's excellent.
Having gone through a few can openers in my time the best one I have found is a Magican opener - brilliant & easy to use. I got one from Tesco for around a fiver and I know Sainsburys do them too.
