my folks hav elived in their house for nearly 40 years

recently they have had a couple of letter addresssed to the same person...they opened them and found one from an insurance co and one froma bank

however both are not bills - they are sort of junk mail, trying to get this guy to purchase...

why would this be ?

what would be the motive here, if someone has tried to use their address, as they are nevr going to get the letters

also the person who my dad bought his shop off...about 50-odd years ago...had the same surname ( not sure bout first name)

could someone be trying to use this identity, to nake claims on property etc...

any ideas welcome...

( we dont trust my brother you see...so wondering if he has cooked up some mad sceme)

Put the letters back into the envelopes & re-post them 'RETURN TO SENDER - NOT KNOWN AT THIS ADDRESS' and wait and see what happens.
Suppose that you're walking through a town centre and a clipboard-wielding guy says "Would you like one of these nice free gifts, sir? All you have to do is to answer a few questions for me, and agree to let my company send you some further information".

If you're like me, you'll provide the guy with some suitable answers, give him a false name and address (possibly belonging to one of your neighbours!) and accept the free gift. The person living at that address then gets a bit more junk mail than usual.

I've done exactly that on several occasions and I'm sure that many others do the same ;-)

We had the previous owner and various lady friends` mail coming to us for years after we moved in. I just put return to sender and back in postbox, but then bills for vets where he`d had surgery on his dog and injections etc. We didnt know where he had moved to as he was very secretive. He must have been in the same area as it was a local vet, so I contacted them and explained the situation, hopefully he wont be able to take his dogs there again without paying up front. Even now I wish I knew where he was living cos he sold us a right pig in a poke as they say and would like to return the favour somehow.

i suppose its possible...but its an unusual address...its not like north street, or green avenue or something...
why did they open mail that was addressed for someone else? they should have just done as DSJ says and put them back in the post. Don't think this is anything to worry about though - all sounds a little paranoid really
BeaverDiva, I always open mail addressed to someone else at my address, that's how we found that someone had used our address to try and get a loan. Credit agencies are fairly cavalier regarding bad debt and I don't want anything attached to us, even incorrectly.
