Hi i just found out that on christmas day before delivering presents to my house, my mother inlaw took away my presents and gave me a pair of pyjamas because she did not think that i had spent enough on her. (she opened her presents beforehand.) It did not bother me wat i received as i really believe that it is the thought what counts. Just tought that this was a really nasty thing to do.

Pity you couldn't take the m-i-l away and change her!!!
Yes - pretty nasty. Never mind, you'll know what to do next time!!!!

I wouldn't be buying her a present ever again. She'll have a hard time opening nothing in advance of Christmas Day .What a nasty, selfish women.
Don't say a word about it now. Bide your time until you're all planning Christmas this year then just smile sweetly and say to her ' maybe we should set a budget for gift buying so nobody feels that they've not had enough spent on them' - doesn't directly have a go at her but gets the message across.
You could just count to ten, realise you're a much better person than she'll ever be and let it go but where's the fun?

My mother in law spent around 75 on each of my kids, and around 100 on my husband. She gave me a pack of 3 face flannels, still bearing the 99p price tag.
I know it's hard but try and do what I do - rise above it.
Why not ask her to return your gift to her and swap it for something like the face cloths the ABer received......? pmsl
Hi Mandascfc.......I,M your Mother In Law, and I'll have you know those pyjamas were VERY expensive... I WAS giving you a toothbrush cos your teeth are black, but at the last moment I got the Christmas feeling !.
That is awful, im sorry but mother in laws can be right cows some times! I would never buy her anything again or play her at her own game and buy her some mindless crap from poundland next year!

My pyjamas were very nice Jontywino thankyou. But you are obviously not my mother in law because if you were you would no that my teeth are not black as i take great pridein myself. That was a very hurtful reply and was totally unnessasary. My mother in law would not speak to me like that either. She has never been nasty towards me before as i am awair of.
As a matter of interest what had she originally bought you?
Question Author
I dont know what she bought i never asked as I was happy with pyjamas. I was only hurt because i thought she would appreciate the gift which she received. But it seems that she did not. As it was not expensive enough. I obviously did not know her as well as i thought, Because it never occured to me that she would say such a thing.
next year give her a one way ticket some where far away
I agree with mrs_overall - rise above it and don't let the pettiness get to you. Who told you that she had changed your present because that sounds like someone stirring it to me!
i had two presents from my mil this year and they were both free gifts from the avon book. im sure she thinks she is the only person in the world that has the avon book lol
Sorry Mandascfc, I,ve just got a wierd sense of humour. I thought it was very funny actually, No offence meant as I do not know you at all. Actually you sound quite young and vulnerable, whilst I,m a 70+ old codger with nothing better to do till him down there sends for me.... Sorry again, John xx
lol mrs_overall - Sorry, but it really did make me giggle, 'specially that she left the price tags on! Glad you were able to rise above it tho'!

I only wish I had a mother-in-law to exchange presents with! She sadly died before I met my husband.
how do you know she changed the presents??
manda - that was indeed a nasty thing for her to do, also nasty of the person told you about it!

I would do what yinyang has said....
Whoops - *who told you about it!
Good morning smudge.

If you really want a mother in law, please feel free to have mine - she's awful!

mandascfc - I'll swap your jimjams for my face flannels if you like.

I've still got her pressie from last Xmas shoved away in a drawer somewhere. She bought me some old ladies lavender bath salts with the price tag on - 69p.
