how do i get temporary power to consent to medical procedures for my niece?

my sister is going into residential drug detox and rehabilitation. the plan is that she will be away for between 4 and a half and 7 and a half months. she has asked me to look after her daughter for the duration. i will live in her council flat with her daughter. how do i make sure i can sign consent forms if my niece needs medical treatment in that time?

You will need to get your sister to write a letter giving you her consent to deal with such matters should they arise, which hopefully they wont.

Keep the letter safe and should your neice any medical attention/treatment, just show the letter to the doctor/hospital if they query it.
