This question should probably be in the parenting section but can anyone tell me why my 12 year old niece keeps telling lies ? It started off with little things you know haven't moved stuff but now she as told my mom that i am pregnant ( am not) and that i didn'T want to tell her , thus it caused a scene with my mom. Don't really want to tell my sister if i can help it but what do you think i shoud do . She is making lots of stuff up thanks

Ignore it and remain the adult, you would lose any trust or confidence she may be holding for you. Be her friend not her enemy.
best sort things out with your mother - did she really believe you'd tell a 12-year-old but not her? And you could try telling your sister as if it was a joke rather than a confrontation: 'You won't believe what your little Kylie did, pretended I was pregnant! Gave Mom such a scare!' As to why, maybe she's jealous of you somehow? Anyway, just ignore it as dot says. She's the kid, you're the adult, she has no real power to hurt you.

Thanks , i thought it was funny to be honest with you i just played along and told i was going to my mothercare to start getting clothes , it was my mom that caused the scene.

i wouldn't like to lose her trust cos we are pretty close, in fact she came to me when she noticed changes in her body which was an honour really.

i just wondered if the lies were a phase ?

She's probably got a thousand questions running around her head and instead of asking them directly she's hoping to find out the answers indirectly.
