My heart has always raced here and there, but I just ignore it becuase Im only 24 and am perfectly healthy and thin. I don't suffer from any anxiety either, but lately my heart beat speeds up, and sometimes it wakes me up in the middle of the night, or early in the morning. The other evening I was watching tv, and I could feel my heart through my chest, I timed it at 114 beats a minute. I timed it twice to make sure. It finally got back down to 82 beats a minute after about 45min. Im going to the doctors, but I was wondering if this happens to a lot of people? Is it a heart murmer? --I am pretty healthy (I do drink more than I should though), but I am very fit.

Hi dancealot. This sounds like palpitation's which many people get but see you doc just to be on the safe side.
You're probably in excellent health, given your age and physical fitness... however, a number of years ago, I experienced similar symptoms and after a lot of testing it was found that I had hyperthyroidism. the thyroid, for undetermined reasons, had begun excreting surplus hormone and this was the first symptom noticed by my Dr. The endocrinologist I was referred to explained the same symptoms are seen in those experiencing hypothyroidism... the thyroid produces to little hormone. both conditions are easily treated, by the way. The thirstiness is suspect as well... but as you've probably already determined, be sure to see your doctor to alay any concerns...
My mum had this recently dance.

palpitations can occur for a number of reasons. It is often more noticeable at night, since you are resting and you generally have less things to think about, so it becomes more noticeable.
Lots of reasons for arrythmia, ranging from anxiety/ adrenaline to caffeine intake (cola, coffee ) etc. Even postural changes can bring on an event.

I would keep a diary and record when and for how long these events occur if I were you, and cut down on alcohol and caffeine heavy drinks... also cut down on smoking if you are one :)

In my mums case, it was a combination of excessive orange juice (bizarrely) and smoking that seemed to be the cause, and once she cut down on both she was fine.
I would go to the Docs just as soon as you can. Thin-ness is nothing to do with whether you have a heart that works well or not.

It often leaves me with shortness of breath, it's like im breathing, but the breath isn't satisfying. It's so odd. Then Ill work out and my heart is just fine, but then Ill sit down and watch tv and it starts all over again?

Anyway, thanks for the advice.

i also get these symptoms and after months of tests it turns out i have sinus tacchycardia. it only happens every now and then and there's no treatment for it. i would definitely get checked out xx
