Isn't it nice to see the diversity in our society reflected in the most popular children's names last year?

it's odd that there are 3.  Girls. boys and ...?

Question Author

I think Muhammad was included in the report to show, well... diversity.

At that young age they're all just babies.

well, if it was a report on the most popular baby names, muhammad was probably included because it was the most popular baby name?

IMO "most popular" means the one that was most popular, top of the list, commenest, in which case i cant see why there is 3? 2 i could understand - most popular boys name and most popular girls name, but i dont understand why a report would have 3

The little strangers would have no say in the name they were given.

they can change it later.

Question Author

Their religious education may not dwell on the prophets proclivities.

If that's the case they'd have no reason to change their name.

I expect a flood of complaints about the order of the names.

^ 'ark at him!

I'm not sure about Muhammad-  there's so many variants: muhammad, mohammad, mohamed, mohamid etc. DO they aggregate them for these surveys?

which ones are least popular?  Eggbert?

No more Kevin and Sharon then .🤣.

>>> "DO they aggregate them for these surveys?"

The Office for National Statistics does NOT aggregate different spellings of name but, of course, those who then base their reports upon the ONS figures may then do so.

Quote:
"The statistics are based on the exact spelling of the name given on the birth certificate; grouping names with similar pronunciation would change the rankings – exact names are given so users can group if they wish".

Good to see a margarine heading the list.

With all the biblical boys' names in the top 100, I'm looking for Seth to make it. I love that name. Perhaps the old man from Emmerdale Farm might put people off, though.

Question Author

I don't see Stephen in the list of boys names.

Have I, along with Archie and Percy, been consigned to the dust bin of history?
