last weekend i went to my cousins barbecue, her garden looks on to a womens prison, you could clearly see the women looking out through their heavely barred windows they were all wearing navy blue shirts, the women were shouting and screaming at each other , some looked soo sad, it was warm and sunny outside but they were locked up, every now and again you could here loud bells going off, it looked such a sad and misreable place i know p-rison is a punishment but it was hard to not feel sorry for them ?

I think it depends on the reason they are in prison .
I don’t envy your cousins house location .
Okay.
It also seems to be a bit of a template for womens prisons.

I think it's a good idea. It keeps some horrible people away from the rest of us for a while.
Could be worse - could be locked in your bedroom for four days for ignoring your parents.

Only another seven before they catch up with your Sir Beer being handed his April at pmqs questions then Tora.

Why am I doubting that someone's "garden looks on to a women's prison"?
Is that even possible?
I think it's an industrial laundry.
I am assuming that Imogens is in the USA. I cannot picture a prison being situated so close to private homes that the inmates can be seen by homeowners. Just saying
So this was the same prison as the one featured on the TV program you watched recently (see Douglas's link)??
Click bait
Houses back on to Winson Green prison, in the middle of Birmingham, but the residents can't see the prisoners.
There are many Victorian prisons still in use in built up residential areas of British cities
It's a necessary removal of offenders from society which has two aims. First it gets them away from the rest of us for a while, while they contemplate their offending activity. There is also the hope that opportunities provided by the prison service may rehabilitate and give the option of being a better citizen on release. So society may get an improved citizen, or at worst it gets a break from one unwilling or unable to improve.

As to whether it's cruel or just, depending on circumstances it could be both, or neither, or any combination. But it is the only obvious basic default.
