I met someone recently with this name. I had first encountered her name, on paper. Fortunately the name was easier to say than it was to spell. Beautiful, isn't it?

How do you pronounce that? My friends and I looked up how to pronounce Eilidh (I think). I would never have guessed.
Cedric.
I hate the made-up names or the one spelled wrongly on purpose.

I know a Nell and an Edie - nice short names but I don't think that they will get dated at any point.

Aoibheann is pronounced, Eve-een.

Eilidh, Ay-lee
Thanks - that's what we found. It must be annoying having to spell your name out on the phone every time...
I like Niamh (neev)

So do I, Toorak
I have a vehement hatred of saddling someone with a name that they will spend their lives having to spell and correct pronunciation.

It is acceptable within the appropriate region/culture/language base. But out of context it is downright bloody tedious having to correct people for your entire life.
I like Chevonne!
Is she Irish?
I know someone called that, Sharon. Seven sisters, all with similar names. That was confusing.
The Niamh I know is irish
No one ever spells my first name properly (not that I use it much), it's common enough but there's at least four ways to spell it and a number of times people have insisted that my surname is Shepherd.
Im 100% with Eccles. i truly hate names that some poor children have been saddled with because their parents have insisted on being 'different' doesn't seem much thought was given to the offspring that will spend a lifetime having to spell their own name out to EVERYONE.

i also dislike 'normal' name ,misspelled, again in the belief they're different. my daughter's name is Georgia, however she has a friend at school also called the same, except spelled Jorga, I personally think it's hideous and im not convinced it's that way as the parents didn't know the correct spelling of it!
Spelling names the Irish way means they'll always have tp spell out their names. I can't even pronounce most of them!

I'm always asked to spell my surname out which I find ridiculous as it's so easy to spell.
I adore your surname ummmm- NEVER change it!
I won't....you geek :-)
haha ;-)
A-VEEN appears to be a more popular way to pronounce Aoibheann
