So....
Why?
What makes you think that gobsmacked doesn't mean anything ?

What ? .gub smacked aye but gob
Brexit
Smacked in the gob, type of astounded.
Or are you unaware that gob is another word for mouth ?
basically..and actually....
More phrase than a word.

"Yes, but".

You either agree or you don't!!
Like Minty...

'Basically' and 'literally'

Both words ok when used in their proper context but it seems that all teenagers throw them in randomly.

"Basically yeah, she literally did XYZ"...... and then I feel my teeth grind...
"Hun!".......can't stand the word....."Hun."

Almost invariably used by certain female AB members when giving mostly, emotional support.......to be fair, not used as much now.
e.g Oh! mazie....well done "hun" we are all behind you and if you want to talk at any time, there will be someone on AB..."Hun."
"like"

My 11 year old doesn't seem to be able to string a sentence together without it being liberally peppered with that word- drives me nuts.
Incredibly, over used by lying *** politicians to imply hard work or commitment.
Boo..that one too !! every sentence oh comes out with seems to be punctuated with like !! GGGRRRR
As others have said, "so" at the beginning of every sentence drives me nutty.

So does [it's ok, I've used it in the proper context there:) ] "literally ".

I work with a girl who uses literally in almost every sentence. As in "I'm literally going to put this book here". "I'm literally going to the cinema tonight".
What?? Please stop.
Shemozzle
Guys - when used in the context to generically address all the people in one room. I'm not a bloke, so why are you addressing me as one?
shemozzle shemozzle...rather like that Danny !! what DOES it mean ?? morning xx
Americanisms in general. Far too many of them polluting the English language.
