I had a growth scan yesterday and was told the baby weighed approx 5.2 lb. Not sure how accurate these things are to be honest.

Anyway, midwife came today and told me that my belly was measuring only 32 weeks. Surely they'd have picked this up on the scan. If there was something wrong, the sonographer would have noticed?

My midwife has worried me now. Who do I take note of, midwife or calm down at the thought that the scan was 'perfect size'

Has anyone else had this?

Not very accurate. Not in my experience anyway. Even the scans weren't accurate. I was lead to believe my baby would be 3-4lbs...she was 7lb 14oz...

So that means it could be smaller than they have said after the scan. The fact that they said it weighs around 5.2 was putting my mind at rest.
It could be bigger. My daughter was nearly 4lb bigger than predicted.
If babys head is angaging then it can also affect fundal height measurment so measuring 32 weeks at 35 isnt always a concern.

also, babies put on (on average) half a pound a week in last few weeks so even if 5.2lbs now at 40 weeks would be 7 and a half pounds.

What has midwife said about the measurement?
I know a number of women who were told their babies were smaller than average at scan, then went on to give birth to perfectly average or above weight babies.

If the sonographer had any concerns, they would have told you.
3 Days before my daughter was born I had a scan and they told me she would be low birthweight, lucky to be 6lbs, well when she came she was 8lb 5oz, a very healthy weight so don't fret until you have to.

Do you think they would have picked it up sure?

Red, she said I was measuring 32 weeks. Nothing much else really. I'm a worrier anyway, so not the best thing to tell me :-(
if thats all she said then youve nothing to worry about. when do you next see her?
If they had any concerns they would have dicussed them with you - they know what they're doing (even though it is perfectly normal to worry). Good luck x.
Please try not to worry, in my experience these measurements are not very accurate. I had the same conversation with my midwife who said that I was measuring about 4 cm less than 'should' have been and because of this they induced me 2 weeks early because they said the placenta wasn't providing enough nutrients. Said that for both pregnancies and first child was 6lbs 4oz and second 7lbs 5oz and healthy.

I must have read every book going on the subject and asked every woman who had been in this situation, just to put my mind at rest.

All the very best to you.
