my little boy (20 months) has been told by various family members that feet are `tootsies` , hands are `dannies` and teeth are `pegs` where do all these come from and what do people call private parts? we say `willy` for a boy but what do people call girls bits? this may seem a weird question but I cant imagine my baby son saying `penis` or `vagina` at his age.what can one call them instead?

Never heard of 'Dannies' but I have heard various names for female genitalia: nicer ones are 'Snatch' (not sure where that comes from) the more obviouse 'Fa**y' (not so nice but not so rude) or maybe just 'girly bits'???
my mum and dad always call the girls parts mooie but my little girl just calls it a bum she thinks its the same as the one behind
I personally don't see anything wrong with using the proper terms! But my Mum always use to refer to the "front bottom" (as opposed to the back bottom!).

according to experts, it's best to use the correct words.

My daughter (3) knows it's her vagina but we call them her "bits" for ease. She thinks the kid's tv programme called "Bits and Bobs" is histerical when the two characters "bob along" and say to each other - "Hold onto your bobs, bits" and "Hold on to your bits, bobs!"

my mum always called mine my widgy - and i absolutley hated it! my friends called theirs ; pee pee; wendy; and flue!

Our son(5) calls his a 'winkle' and as a family we usually refer to our daughter's(9) as her 'foofy' or 'chuchy',
Thfcuk, I cant stop giggling re you little girl having 2 bums! My grandson calls his penis Peter!
In a recent article I read somewhere, the word "fanoir" was used to describe a ladies "bits"...maybe not suitable for a small child, but I thought it was quite an elegant solution

When our two daughters were little, they were taught the correct word for their private part, but we discreetly referred to it as 'Mary' (Mary Ann - Fan/Fanny), because it sounded nicer! Apologies to any ladies sharing the same name.

We didn't have any little boys, but would refer to their's as Dinkle.

Im so glad this question is on here. We have had great conversations about this in the office!! i think children should know the correct name and call them by the real name or by saying their 'bits'. I look after my nephew and my sister went mad at me after spending a day with me he called his 'bits' his penis. In their house they call a boys bits a 'winkle' and a girls bits a 'doodoos'.

I dont really see the point in teaching them one word only to teach them something completly different a few years down the line, also i think by saying a different word it just makes them feel they should be embarrassed by the word and their bits!!!

This is just my opinion x x

That is true wonky, although when in public, I wouldn't have wanted our 'little' girls to have loudly said "Can you wipe my vagina please Mummy" or "Mummy, I've got an itchy vagina". We always taught them that they should never be embarrased about any parts of their body, but considered some things 'private', especially when out anywhere. Fortunately, they have both grown into sensible, level headed young ladies & Mothers, so it didn't do them any harm. It's all down to personal choice.

P.S. They both knew 'who Mary was', but nobody else did - hence no eavesdropping in the public loo's!
I agree that at some stage it is right to teach them the correct words, but hearing a teeny tot saying 'Penis' or 'Vagina' is very strange. When I was younger, my family always referrred to girls bits as Minnie (don't know why) and it was always willy for boys bits. I continued the sayings when I had my son and daughter .
My sister has two daughters who call theirs "twinkies!"
that's fine in the UK, in the US a twinkie is a brand of cake!!
How funny?!?
Whatever you call these 'bits' do bear in mind that your child will shout it very loudly at least once in a public place!  My sister took her 3yr old son for a haircut & after a few quiet minutes he announced in a loud voice 'My winkie's sticking up!'  The student who was watching fell off his stool laughing.

lol noddy - That's exactly what I was trying to explain earlier! Children always trip you up when you least expect it!

Thats why kids are so great ha ha it makes you giggle!!!
My friends little girl always called hers a 'mini'..which caused great joy to her when I bought a new car.....a green Mini.
Well, my mam always called my brothers bits his 'tiddle;, which i thought was cute, and referred to my bits as a 'butterfly'!!
