Hi - This is my 3rd baby and I didn't have this problem with the other two! She is 6 months old and very happy on her bottle, but I have been trying to begin the weaning process with some baby rice made with her formula milk. She wants it, and reaches for the spoon whilst opening her mouth, but each time to food touches her tongue she makes a terrible face and gags. I have tried dirrent purees (savoury/sweet and warm/cold), but each time it's the same. Any ideas?

most of them go through the gagging stage. Its often thought to be their way of getting the food to the front of the mouth if they cant handle it.

As long as she isnt actually choking then you could continue to try weaning as you are. Dont look panicked as this can unnerve baby, keep calm and she will too

Have you thought of giving her foods to feed herself with, called baby led weaning, a well cooked piece of carrot or broccoli. Dont try BLW unless baby is able to sit up unaided though.

As baby gets all she needs from the milk its not too much of a concern as yet, Im sure she will get there in her own time.
