I suffered from Plurisy about 3 years ago. I think it has come back but cant remember much except that I was in immense pain.
I was wondering if any one knows much about this illness.
I am finding it hard to breathe, it feels like I have just run for ages if I just walk and I have a strong pain in my left shoulder and a smaller one in my chest.
What do you think????
Does anyone know how to relieve it?

Hiya you
i know it is hard to completely shift and it weakens the chest, you need to get to the docs and if they can they will send u for xrays i think and hopefully get you on anti biotics.
Just try to rest and don't overexert yourself as if you get short of breath it will give you more discomfort

Hi Dot

How are you?
I tried ringing my Doctors but they said as its straight after the Bank Holiday they are fully booked so I tried ringing NHS Direct who said they are only taking emergency calls! Grrr its so frustrating!
I am at work at the moment and I might ask if I can go home and just rest.
Hope you are better than me any way lol!

dot is correct, seek medical attention, dont just hope it will go away. Hopefully a big fart will shift it though! :)

A big fart????????? Lol
Actually yes it could well be trapped wind, tell you what, try to get a massage, if it is trapped wind in the chest area that should shift it. But do you not have a walk in centre that can see you initially? There isn't one near me but there is usually one within a few miles of most places, they can offer a sort of triage I think, or failing that go to A & E, if the pain is acute I am sure it would be a valid visit.

I have felt like this since since Sunday night though except that today the pain came with it rather than just the breathing difficulty so I dont think its trapped wind but however the sound of having a massage sounds fab!
I have just phoned the Doctors to ask for the ShropDoc number (which is our sort of emergency walk in Doctor) but the Receptionist said they only operate out of hours - doh!
You need to get medical attention as pleurisy can be serious ( and I sympathise as I've had it and it hurts!) Ring your Doctor back tell them you have pains in the chest - they are obliged to see you (and your not fibbing) be pushy!
Did you have a vigorous weekend, you may have pulled a muscle in between your ribs, this is also very painfull and can constrict breathing, the fart / trapped wind thing was only to cheer you up a bit, still see your doc. Did you have curry on Sunday? The fart may be loitering with intent after an Indian meal, it may be a good idea to go home if that is the case, cos you is gonna be unpopular at work if you drop a 2 day old curry fart in the office. :)
Hi there girly, I have the exact same symptoms, have been to the doctors and she says that it's hay fever aggravating my asthma ! The chest pain, breathlessness and general grotty feeling is awful, she's doubled the doses of both my inhalers, given me antihistamines and put me on a course of 8 a day steroids.
I have felt a bit better over the last 2 days, but don't know if it's cos it's been raining ( low pollen )

Time will tell. Do you have asthma girly ? x x

Hi Peppy
Yes I do......
How interesting, although I have never known it to be like this before!
Thanks for the advice.
I eventually have persuaded the Receptionist that I really am ill and she has let me have an emergency appointment at 4pm today. I'm only allowed to be in there 5 minutes mind! lol
This is the first time for me too, I feel like my chest and shoulders are on fire and like someone is stabbing me repeatedly between the shoulder - blades. In fact I thought I'd got flu and a chest infection, I felt so bad.

As I said, I feel slightly better as I've been on the steroids etc for 3 days now.
Hope you feel better soon girly x x x
Question Author
Oh it doesnt feel like that, its more of a sharp pain in my left shoulder blade and a smaller pain in the centre of my chest.
I feel extremly cold - infact most of the morning I have sat in my winter coat at my desk, holding the radiator (thats on full blast!) still with Goosebumps!
Only 2 hours until my appointment at least and then hopefully I will know the outcome.
So pleased you have an appointment girlygirl , keep us posted if you are up to it when you get back . I have had it too and it is painful with every breath I agree. Take care .
:-) xx

Peppy love , the steroids usually work well don't they , I have courses quite often too . Get well soon sweetie .:-) xx

I saw the rubbish Doctor and she said that despite being totally breathless, having pain etc - she didnt know what was wrong and to come back if it gets worse! Stupid mare!
It might not be Plurisy but its something and I dont really think she was exactly helpful!
Grrrrrrrrr
come back if it gets worse ??? Thats why you went to your doctor in the first place isn't it ? no chest x-ray ? no antibiotics ? Go back if it doesn't improve girlygirl2 :-) x
