Hi All

I am just over 6 months pregnant and I really want to dye my hair, as my roots are really bad!! I have done some research on this and there is no evidence that it will harm your baby. My hair dressers says that the only thing that can happen is your hair not taking to the dye. Also she is 6 months pregnant and dyed her hair twice. I have booked an appointment for a few weeks, i will be 7 months then. what is your advise and I would like to hear from people who havew dyed their hair whilst pregnant!!

I have just had my 4th baby and have always highlighted my hair and they were all fine .I know you may not have the time after the baby ,so make the most of it!
im a student midwife, and i have heard midwives say many times that you shouldn't use bleach on your hair when pregnant but the foils that the more modern salons use are fine, i think its something to do with the chemicals in the bleach, hope that helps emzy x
I died my hair when I was eight months preggers - cheered me up no end, too! I think they say not to just in case you have an allergic reaction. Your hormones are all over the place and you may be allergic to something you weren't allergic to previously, so make sure you do a skin patch test.
i agree with whats already been said, people only say that to safe guard themselves incase you have a reaction to the colour. I say go for it, it will make you feel 10 times better and true you may not have time once the baby comes. I had my baby and long coloured hair, since her birth i have very short hair and its never coloured as i never get time, hair is the last thing on my mind. Also its perms that they say never do when preg as the perm lotion wont take and your perm will drop out because of hormones!!! dam things.Hope it all goes ok. x

The reason you are advised not to dye your has has nothing to do with damaging your baby. As many women will have experienced our hair is different when we are pregnant, drier, greasier, curlier or straighter, depending on the lady. For this reason you cannot tell how your hair wikll react to treatments such as dying and bleaching, or perming.

I have decided to wait untill the baby is born!!
I have dyed my hair during all my pregnancies...Yes, there is a chance for some I guess to have their hair "not take"..But, it doesn't do damage..I had no problem doing it..I had to, I couldn't wait months to dye my hair! Hope that helps..:-)
hi i am a hairdresser and have had 2 children i have coloured my hair with one of the and it was fine the only thing you need to worry about is the colour having too many metalic salts in it this can harm your baby generally professional colours dont have alot in them if any but box colours out of a shop do have alot . and for people who say i coloured my hair when pregnant and my baby was fine all i can say to them is HOW DO YOU KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON INSIDE YOUR CHILDS BODY
I was advised that it was a product in the hair dye that was the problem. i am 90% certain it was ammonia. hairdressers can do ammonia free hair colourants so you can always look around. and tbh the amount of things that you can and cant do during pregnacy changes from one week to the next - so i wouldnt be too worried.
