Forgive my ignorance but would I be able to use one of these on a sliding patio door?

It fits by exerting pressure via adjustable screws on fixed surface either side of opening, so no drilling.
Ours fits from side to side across full width opening (ignore sliding section of door)
It's a 44" opening so we had to buy an extension section to go with Gate, but no problems.
I think I'm with you Ummmm.
I'm trying to find a simple solution to keeping marauding beasties out of my conservatory and thought a stair gate might be a simple off the shelf solution.
I might have to pay a visit to Mothercare and have a look as I can't quite figure the fittings on Sipowicz link, thanks for the link though.

Have a look at 'additional images' and options here.

Their Dogs gates are the same thing but taller.
Thanks Sipowicz, I hadn't spotted the video! .......and I can't get it to play on my iPad.
Having looked at some of the links I am inclined to think that the fire guard approach is the simplest and has the least faff involved as it is more a deterrent I need than a robust physical barrier. The fireguard solution just hadn't occurred to me.

This reminded me of an incident we had in the 60s. At the time we had a small child and we had a baby gate fixed across the bottom of the stairs. It was a bit of an inconvenience because in those days you had to climb over the gate which was fixed in position. No opening gates back then. Anyway my husband was due to go back to work after having been ill. Winter time and pitch dark ,the phone rang downstairs about 6am. He switched the light on but the bulb blew up so he dashed downstairs as fast as he could in the dark. F
