Forgive my ignorance but would I be able to use one of these on a sliding patio door?

I suppose you'd need to measure the gap, wouldn't you?
They are mainly fixed to the wall so it's unlikely. You might have to get one made.

It's the how they attach bit that was bothering me. My very limited experience of them is that they are fixed to the wall.

I'll have to improvise cause I'm not going to the expense of having one made!
They have little disk type things that are attached to the wall and the gate screws into them, so if you want to take it down you just unscrew the gate leaving the disks in place.

Does that make sense?

We use a Lindam Dog-gate (same product as baby gate) on small patio door from a bedroom to balcony,
It fits by exerting pressure via adjustable screws on fixed surface either side of opening, so no drilling.
Ours fits from side to side across full width opening (ignore sliding section of door)
It's a 44" opening so we had to buy an extension section to go with Gate, but no problems.

I think I'm with you Ummmm.

I'm trying to find a simple solution to keeping marauding beasties out of my conservatory and thought a stair gate might be a simple off the shelf solution.

I might have to pay a visit to Mothercare and have a look as I can't quite figure the fittings on Sipowicz link, thanks for the link though.

Have a look at 'additional images' and options here.

Their Dogs gates are the same thing but taller.
A nursery fireguard placed outside the patio door might suffice and could be easily moved for access etc. If you ask around someone will probably have one going spare . Our Staffie sleeps behind one of these at nightime and although he could easily knock it over he never attempts to.

Thanks Baldric.

I like the fireguard idea too.

I'm not after high security just a deterrent.
Eccles, watch the video on my link.
It's the bottom image on the left!

Thanks Sipowicz, I hadn't spotted the video! .......and I can't get it to play on my iPad.

Having looked at some of the links I am inclined to think that the fire guard approach is the simplest and has the least faff involved as it is more a deterrent I need than a robust physical barrier. The fireguard solution just hadn't occurred to me.
This reminded me of an incident we had in the 60s. At the time we had a small child and we had a baby gate fixed across the bottom of the stairs. It was a bit of an inconvenience because in those days you had to climb over the gate which was fixed in position. No opening gates back then. Anyway my husband was due to go back to work after having been ill. Winter time and pitch dark ,the phone rang downstairs about 6am. He switched the light on but the bulb blew up so he dashed downstairs as fast as he could in the dark. F
sorry pressed submit by mistake. He fell over the baby gate with an almighty crash, broke his arm and was off work for another month. -The phone call ----- from a loving mother making sure that he got up in time for his first day back at work!!!
Why not simply cut a piece of mdf or ply to the required size?
Question Author
LoL, I though you finished on 'F' because that was the first letter of the word he uttered when falling base over apex!

You were posh......a phone!!!!
Hope that you find a fireguard Eccles but ask around first for a second hand one . The new ones can be quite expensive.
Question Author
Roy, MDF and ply would be unsightly, cumbersome and require storing when not in use.
Well , the language was a bit more explicit than 'F' but that letter did just fit in didn't it?
