My 16 year old wants to live in a caravan in my garden

My 16 year old son wants to live in my garden in a caravan! My ex wife after a bitter split is threatening to report me if I agree! I thought as a 16 yr old,he can live anywhere? Does anyone know the legal jargon regarding this?

The issue is not his age or status - the issue is that one needs planning consent to live permanently in a caravan.

What do you think would happen if she DID report you? ... nothing, I would think. It's on your property .. supervised as much as if their bedroom was upstairs.
I think has to have permission to live elsewhere tho .. from legal guardian ... you?

I have looked into the planning issue..as long as one meal is eaten in the house then its all legal and above board! Just need to re-assure mself that a 16yr old is legally allowed to move out of home!

i lived in a childrens home until i was 16 and they said i had to find my own digs 6 weeks befor my 16th bday so you can leave home at 16 as far i know plus i would have loved to have done that a sence of freedom yet peace of mind someone is close by.

you son just wants his own space and see the caravan as his own space tv bed make own food and cups of teas egc... i think its great .. but there is a down side ..mates geting out of hand other kids messing about outside caravan ... you nead strickt rules about mates egc .. he maybe a good lad but i am sure some of his mates will see a perfect chance to use it as a doss house.. or caravan lol....

i think it is best to say monday to friday in it till 10pm and weekends you can sleep in it . do that for 3 months and we will see how it goes
