I'm a maths teaching assistant but would like to try and make some extra cash out of school by offering myself as a maths tutor for ks3 and gcse. I've had interest already from some of my colleugues friends but am unsure as to what rate i should charge? Has anyone had tutors before and know what the going rate is?

I'm in South London and would most likely travel to their accomodation so i know these need to be taken into account. I would say maybe 16 per hour?

My duaghter is having maths tuition for her GCSE - her tutor is a qualified teacher, and he charges 16 per hour, for lessons at his house. given that we are in Stoke, you may want to up your rate on the basis of London COL differences, and your travel expenses. Hope this helps.
16 is standard for a qualified teacher. if you are a teaching assistant you would not normally expect to get the same rate as a qualified teacher. Unqualified teachers at my College get a "demonstrators" rate, which is about 10 an hour. You could always enrol on a part-time PGCE and that way you can justify your more expensive rate, as you will soon be qualified.
if its any help then i used to go to maaths tuitioning and it costed 20 and i went 3 times a week.
