A number of years ago I seem to remember a person I know re ceived monies fromthe state on the death of her partner. what situation would this arise? would it be being on benefits or only asmall income?

There is a £2000 Bereavement payment (subject to certain conditions) and funeral payments if you are on low income.

If you're on a low income and need help to pay for a funeral you're arranging, you may be able to get a Funeral Payment from the Social Fund. You might have to repay some or all of it from the estate of the person who died. Find out more information including how to claim.
