All the banks will give you free guides and also business plan templates. You can also try businesslink.

Your local chamber of commerce may be able to help and depending on where you live there are other agencies of a similar ilk

If you belong to a library the librarian will be able to research a selection of books for you. Another good book to reach is "What colour is your parachute?" It's aimed at people who have been made redundant and who are thinking of a career change or setting themselves up in business. It contains a lot of sensible down-to-earth advice and covers issues that could easily be overlooked by somebody with no experience.
