Hi there is a place in central london (if you live in this country), that you can get in touch with and they can track all the accounts that exsisted. But sorry I do not have the address. You could try on the web, or if not phone one of the building society's or a bank and I am sure they will have it. good luck

Firsly, my condolences.

Unfortunately there is no central register. The only thing you may be able to do is to write to each bank and just ask them!. You may need to enclsoe a copy of the will showing you as executor as well as a copy of the death certificate.

Going through all his persoanl effects will also probably throw some light on some more accounts. If he had a solicitor / accountant etc, they would be able to tell you easily, but then I suppose you wouldn't be asking this question.

If your father kept lots of accounts, it would also probably be worth going through his house very thoroughly - my mother in law had around 2000 in various nooks and crannies (hidden in biscuit tins) around the place!

Thanks for the replies. I have since discovered that the Building Society Association and the British Banking Association can run free searches for Dormant or forgotten accounts, so I'll give them a go and keep you posted.
How can I find out which bank a specific bank account belongs too?
