flight refunds

do flight companies buy back flights. i have booked and paid cash for 4 flights to Australia for December and have recenlty found out my son may not be able to travel due to possibly needing surgery. I did not purchase insurance at the time of booking. Please help

highly unlikely as this is what insurance is for. Speak to the airline and ask them.
If you do get a refund it will come at a price. Similar thing happened to me although mine was a cheap easyjet flight to Spain.
It depends on the T&C of the tickets you bought. Some are 100% refundable, some refundable in part and others not at all (apart from the tax element)
