My daughter pays VAT on a property she is using for a haidressing salon. SHe is not VAT registered as the salon is new and is not earning the amount required to register.

Should she be paying VAT and can we claim it back?

Yes she should be paying VAT just like anyone else.

She cannot claim it back unless she registers.
You can register at any figure of turnover - the 'required amount' is the figure at which one HAS to register.
The downside is that she would have to charge VAT on the prices to her customers.
